It doesn't look like any of you are actually looking at source code. I personally like Lava Defense. The game play could use some work, but the source code is well thought out and clean. Salamander Furnace has a great UI, I like the 4 player features that was put into it. Oh no Volcano, is very simplistic at its root. For the most part the source code looked alright. I'm judging mainly on the source code, so my vote goes to Lava Defense. If I was solely looking at game play I think Oh no volcano has a much more approachable and longer lasting experience than the others.

It was compiled without the VC++ runtime included, so you have to install it separately. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

Here is a review of every game submited to this contest.
Lava Defense:
Unoriginal idea, this game could have added some more elements to become a little bit more interesting.. Fullscreen seems to bug things and the color choice for the menu is awful. I wish the game taught me anything at all about its commands or how to play it. Overall this is a rather boring game with nothing new nor gimmicks to keep you interested for longer than a minute.
Oh No Volcano:
What it lacks in originality it makes up with difficulty... after a couple of rounds of flying lava being thrown at me, i found it extremely hard to keep going on without being hit. Things seem to work out pretty well and i experienced no bugs which is great.
Salamander Furnace:
The game begins with a nice background music and as i have played the other two games i thought this one would have many interesting mechanics. It turned out to be a mini-shooter game with 4 salamanders(player or AI) in each team with rebindable commands. While i do appreciate this local multiplayer, i think its a rather pointless idea and resources and programming time could be used elsewhere. AI seems to act stupid sometimes but i enjoyed playing it.
My vote goes to Salamander Furnace
Best of luck mate ;)
Also i'd like to be interested in when is the next contest coming?

I suspect salamander furnace is the best, but lol I cannot get it to start, I have windows 7, my hardware is pretty capable lets just say that, for some reason the game just opens up then freezes and quits, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I formatted my pc and had a clean windows 7 install, so I no longer have SDL on my pc, but I don't think that should matter, who knows...

It would be very helpful if you could post/email specifics of your hardware, like the model of graphics card and your card's driver version or its list of supported OpenGL extensions. From there, I could better figure out these hardware compatibility errors, not just for this game.

c'mon people, salamander furnace should win, i bet the guy put a lot of effort in it, 4 players etc. It might not be the most pleasent to play, but it is the most sophisticated!

Great effort on all the games! I didn't submit a game and I am really disappointed in myself for it. They need probably two more weeks of polish to be better demos. I think there should be a 2-4 weeks extension, maybe that will bring in more submissions. These are my constructive comments if it helps:
Lava Defense - looked like the best up till the game play, the movement seems really slow and off.
Oh No Volcano - great starting point, something is missing... maybe shake the screen before the volcano erupts?
Salamander Furnace - it has the best game play, but little lava! Maybe the salamders should spit balls of lava something more like a flame thrower style? You have to select a level on salamander for the game to start.

I'm curious, what exactly do you mean "the movement seems really slow and off"? Can you elaborate? I really would like to understand where I went off. The biggest problem I had was the memory required to load the enemies. I think my problem is that I didnt make any of the surfaces static. So it just sucks up the memory. Were you reffering to the stuturing during enemy wave spawns? I was eventually going to address this issue, but i made this game in like 4 days. I started late because of all my classes. Anymore comments regarding lava defense would be great! I really want to know what people think!

Cool, I voted for the one that worked best for me. When is the next contest? I think I'm ready to do something simple like this!

I'd love to debug that. Can you send me an email with more details of your hardware? http://code.bluedinosaurs.com/about/
