That is the problem.

Look at the 1st paragraph of this tutorial:
“By the way, head on over to the SDL Image tutorial if you haven’t already done so, we will be making the switch over to SDL Image and stop using SDL_LoadBMP. “

Ok, when I load an area, it fails in the CArea::Onload method in:
if((surf_Tileset=CSurface::OnLoad(tilesetFile))==false){
fclose(fileHandle);
return false;
}

… because CSurface::OnLoad() method fails when called, the fails occurs here:
if((surf_Temp=SDL_LoadBMP(file))==NULL){
return NULL;
}

I guess there’s something wrong with the tileset file, but I only copied it from here, didn’t change anything :/

Unfortunately because of the new layout that link no longer works, what is the problem exactly?

People were having trouble before with using SDL_LoadBMP, where in the tutorial (or perhaps previous), I mention the switch over to using IMG_Load. Check if that’s the problem.

I’ve also had some trouble with this tutorial. I really have no idea of what I’m doing wrong, but it keeps returning -1.
I’ve made sure all the required files are there, and I know that it has something to do with one of the classes created in this tutorial because it hasn’t happened before this one.
I’m using Code::Blocks 8.02.
If anyone else has had this problem and solved it can you please tell me what the problem was and how you solved it?
Otherwise, any advice?

Luke,
These are files that I simply made up. If you open up notepad, type in some text, and then click “Save as,” you can type in whatever filename and extension you want. You don’t include these files in your project (if you are doing that), but your program simply loads them from a folder.

hi Tim,

i cannot understand how you created the .map and .area files, and mine wont load when i include them into my file, i understand everyting else but i need to know about the file types and how to create them
