A sad day?

December 5th, 2009 by Tim Jones Leave a reply »

If you all cannot tell, I have been very busy in life lately with two kiddos, full time job, and all sorts of other stuff. As such, I’m having to cut certain things out to make more time for other things. Unfortunately, that may mean SDLtutorials.com . I hate to say this, but only by donating will keep SDLtutorials.com going (it’s actually depressing to have only 1 donation [for the contest] come in since the website started). Otherwise, I’ll be looking to sell the SDLtutorials.com domain name, and only the domain name, to the highest bidder. Sorry, I won’t be selling the rights to my tutorials unless you make an extremely good offer.

Update:
It has come to my attention that even if I wanted to sell the domain today, I wouldn’t be able to do so for at least a year. At any rate, I am simply stressed out and I don’t think I want to give up on this venture. So, I need your help. 1. Please continue to be patient as more tutorials will eventually come. 2. Lets be an active community helping each other, so that if I’m idle for a while, people are still getting help. 3. If you’d like to donate, that’s up to you guys.

Tim, please keep up the good work.
SDL Tutorials helped me, and I am not only talking about programming. Of course the code presented here is high quality code, serving as a example to us, the ones that are trying to start something but don’t have necessary knowledge.

Here I had my very first opportunity of competing in a game contest, and even if I did not won, I managed to actually make something to the point it was playable. I’ve never gone this far, and I credit SDL Tutorials and it’s contest for that chance.

    Thank you and good luck.

I know how you feel. I have a website that is slowly dying because I have no time to take care of it, but my reasons are university work and soccer. But I’m still hoping to get it up and running like the old days, maybe in vacation time I’ll get it done.

Back to this situation. SDLTutorials, really helped my make my little game engine. And programing SDL with an OOP approach really helped me out in many other projects. This is a great website, I come here when I need help, and refer people to it ( link on my blog/posts ).

I just hope you don’t kill the website. You have very valuable information here. Oh and if you need to make some money try Text-Link-Ads :)

    Hi Tim,

Sad to hear about the closure :(
I just wanted to say thank you for the tutorials you’ve made so far! They’ve been extremely helpful to me and I’ve learned a great deal from them, so thank you!

    Best of wishes, NordCoder!

Tim do not do it! This is the single most beneficial help to my intellectual growth regarding the logistics behind programming, and all the other topics conveyed here with such clarity.. SDL, taking advantage of OOP, game programming, etc!

If monetary matters were no object I would without a doubt nor second thought selflessly donate to this here cause and to you. I know it’ is easy to give words… which is why it is sad to me that in this day and age the majority of matters comes down to monetary causality.

Come imminent removal of this site and information, well I wish ye’ best of luck and happiness, for all the information and help you have spent time and effort on for all many people all across the internet!

    Aaron

NO…. please don’t do that. This is really the best site on the net for SDL programming, and not only that but it also helped me to organise my code in a much better way from your tutorials, regardless of any SDL. These tutorials are of a very good quality that anyone can understand and learn a lot from. I’ll be very sorry if you have to give up this site.. it means alot to me and a whole bunch of other people…
